The OPPO A79 5G smartphone that was launched in India last month has been officially confirmed making its way to Malaysia soon. This was revealed by the brand via a teaser that was published today on Facebook. Unfortunately, no exact date for the phone’s debut has been provided at this time, so a separate announcement concerning this is to be expected in the very near future.
For those who missed it, the OPPO A79 5G is a mid-range model that sports a MediaTek chipset, dual rear camera setup that sits on top of an eye-fetching rear glass design which the brand dubs as “Glowing Feather”. The phone sports a large 6.72-inch IPS LCD panel with 1080 x 2400 px resolution, 90Hz refresh rate, 680 nits peak brightness, and Panda glass protection. Besides that, it has an IPX4 rating in splash resistance, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers, and a USB-C 2.0 port for charging and data transfer.
On the inside, the A79 5G packs a MediaTek Dimensity 6020 chipset, along with a single memory configuration which consists of 8GB RAM and 128GB UFS 2.2 internal storage. It also comes with a microSD card slot for memory expansion, Android 13 via ColorOS 13.1, a 5,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging support, as well as dual-band WiFi and Bluetooth 5.3 wireless connectivity.
For photography and video, the aforementioned dual camera setup on the back of the phone features a 50MP f/1.8 primary sensor and a 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor. Meanwhile, situated within the punch-hole cutout on its display is a front-facing 8MP selfie camera.
In India, the new OPPO A79 5G launched at INR19,999 (~RM1,142), and is available in Mystery Black and Glowing Green colourways. On that note, the local teaser seemingly suggests that a completely new purple colour may be introduced as a third option in Malaysia.
