Nintendo Doesn’t Want You To Peel Off The OLED Switch’s Included Screen Protector

Those who’ve purchased the new OLED version of the Nintendo Switch may have noticed that it already comes with an attached screen protector. If you’re considering peeling it off and using a third-party protective film instead, you might want to hold back and hear what Nintendo has to say about that first.

According to a statement provided to IGN, the Japanese video game giant is advising users to not take it off due to safety concerns. The screen protector – known officially by Nintendo as the “anti-scattering adhesive film” is used to protect users from glass, especially in cases where the screen breaks from a fall or other potential mishaps. On top of that, the company added that the OLED Switch’s existing screen protector also helps in preventing scratches.

It’s also worth noting that the screen protector is exclusive to the OLED version. Unlike the glass displays featured on the newly released model, both the original and Lite variants come with plastic screens instead. While the latter may still crack when damaged, they won’t shatter into tiny sharp shards that could potentially cause harm to the user.

It appears that the only consequences users will face by peeling off the film is the loss of a first-party made screen protection. Well, at least it isn’t as punishing as a certain incident way back when.

Nevertheless, it is best to follow Nintendo’s advice and just leave it be. Plus, the fact that the new OLED Switch already comes with a screen protector should spare you the trouble of purchasing a third-party one, especially considering the existing film’s protective capabilities.
