This morning, nascent airline MYAirline shocked many as it abruptly announced a suspension of all its operations, leaving many of its customers in the lurch. With this dire situation, several rival airlines have stepped in and offered support to those affected by this situation.
Malaysia Airlines is offering to re-allocate MYAirline passengers on its flights between Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Langkawi, and Bangkok. “Malaysia Airlines invites the management of MYAirline to work together in re-allocating their passengers on our flights,” it said in a statement.
Budget carrier AirAsia is offering a 50% discount on base fare for the affected passengers with confirmed bookings to and from Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi, Penang, Tawau, Kota Bharu, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, and Bangkok. This is available for flights from today until 30 November. To redeem it, you will need to show your MYAirline flight booking at AirAsia Sales Counters at KL Sentral or in airports that have its counters.
Similarly, Batik Air is offering special one-way fares to MYAirline customers for travel from today until 30 November. The fares include Penang at RM129, Langkawi at RM159, Kuching at RM199, and RM299 for Don Mueang and Kota Kinabalu. Affected passengers can make the booking through email at mya@batikair.com.my and must attach a copy of their MYAirline tickets.
With the sudden suspension, the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) has stated that MYAirline is liable to refund all its customers who were impacted and has ordered the carrier to stop bookings of its flights until further notice. Oddly enough, this move comes just days after it announced that it received a two-year extension of its air operator’s certificate (AOC) from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM).
