HONOR Malaysia today has released teasers featuring an upcoming flagship smartphone that’s set to arrive locally by early next year. Dubbed as the brand’s thinnest and lightest yet, this strongly indicates that the device in question is the Magic V2 foldable that was initially unveiled back in July. Even though it was introduced for the global market a month after, a Malaysian launch was never announced until now.
Ever since its debut, the HONOR Magic V2 is still considered as the world’s thinnest foldable smartphone in the market, measuring only 9.9mm when folded and at an even thinner thickness of 4.7mm when unfolded. Moreover, it is also one of the lightest of its class, coming in at just 231g.
Specifications-wise, the foldable smartphone sports a 6.43-inch LTPO OLED panel for its external screen, offering a resolution of 1060 x 2376 pixels, 120Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 2500 nits. Meanwhile, its internal screen is a larger 7.92-inch LTPO OLED internal display with 2156 x 2344 pixels resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and 1600 nits peak brightness. Other features include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, stereo speakers, and a USB-C 3.1 port.
Under the hood, the HONOR Magic V2 packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, 16GB of RAM, and up to 1TB of internal storage. It also has a 5,000mAh battery, which supports 66W wired fast charging as well as 5W reverse wired charging. It also runs on Android 13 via the brand’s MagicOS 7.2 interface, and has support for NFC, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity.
As for imaging, found on the back of the Magic V2 is a triple camera setup which consists of a 50MP primary with OIS, a 20MP telephoto with OIS and 2.5x optical zoom, and another 50MP sensor for its ultra-wide shooter. Additionally, housed within the punch-hole cutouts on each of the phone’s displays are 16MP selfie cameras.
For reference, the Magic V2 debuted in China at a starting price of CNY8,999 (~RM5,831) for the base trim, though keep in mind that memory configurations may differ for different markets. No exact date for the launch in Malaysia has been revealed just yet, though HONOR promises that the phone is “coming soon”.
