Samsung Malaysia has quietly updated the product page of the newly launched Galaxy S23 FE (Fan Edition) on its website, finally revealing the identity of the onboard octa-core chip which it previously kept under wraps. With the cat now out of the bag, we now know that the component in question is actually the brand’s own Exynos 2200 SoC, and not the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 that’s featured on other versions of the phone for certain markets.
While it’s been expected that the phone will feature a less powerful chipset than the mainstream trio, it is almost certain that this reveal has disappointed many. Given that numerous reports have found the Exynos 2200 to be underwhelming in terms of performance, it’s not hard to see why fans (ironically) prefere the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 instead. But whether you like it or not, Samsung seems to insist on including its first-party chipset for our market as well as some others despite its unfavourable track record.
As for its other specifications, here’s a quick recap in case you missed our previous coverage. Display-wise, the Galaxy S23 sports 6.4-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with FHD+ (1080 x 2340 px) resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 16M colour depth, an under-display fingerprint scanner, and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It also comes with 8GB RAM, up to 256GB storage, Android 13 via One UI 5.1, a 4,500mAh battery with 25W fast charging support via USB, as well as WiFi, Bluetooth 5.3 and NFC wireless connectivity.
For imaging, its rear triple camera setup consists of a 50MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide, and an 8MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom. Meanwhile, housed within the punch-hole cutout on its display is a 10MP front-facing camera for selfies and video calls.
In Malaysia, the new Samsung Galaxy S23 FE is slated to be available starting 10 October, priced at RM2,999 for the 8GB + 128GB configuration and RM3,299 for 8GB + 256GB. The phone will be available in four colour options at launch: Mint, Graphite, Cream, and Purple.
