Hacker Claims To Have Stolen Razer Source Code Encryption Keys

Gaming peripheral maker Razer may have been involved in a security breach incident. Over the weekend, a hacker has claimed to have access to the company’s source code, encryption keys, database, backend access logins and more, for both the brand’s website and products.

Cybersecurity company FalconFeedsio shared on Twitter that the hacker has also published a screenshot as proof of the stolen data. According to BleepingComputer, this includes file lists and trees, email addresses, what is claimed to be source code for anti-cheat and rewards systems, API details, and even Razer Gold balances. The hacker is looking to sell the data set for US$100,000 (~RM466,250) in the Monero (XMR) cryptocurrency.

Razer has publicly responded to the tweet, stating that it has “been made aware of the potential breach and are currently investigating”. In a statement, the company says that once its own investigations have concluded, it “anticipates that we will report this matter to the relevant authorities”.

If you’ve been signed into any of the services Razer provides, you may find that you’ve been signed out of any active sessions. The report notes that this is a deliberate step by the company, which is also requesting that users reset their passwords. Sound advice, all things considered.

The report also notes that the data samples included in this hacking incident dates back to at least December of 2022. While it is unclear when exactly the breach took place, the sensitive data that the hacker has access to looks to be fairly recent. This means that it is likely to not be related to another exposed database incident involving Razer that happened between August and September 2020.
