Konami Temporarily Removes Metal Gear Solid 2, 3 From Digital Stores

Metal Gear Solid 3

If you remember, Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 used quite a number of old historical footage in lieu of cutscenes. But because of this, publisher Konami is removing the two games from digital storefronts. And this is set to happen today, 8 November 2021.

Konami made the announcement on its website, saying that it is already working on renewing the licenses for the footage in question. The removal affects all platforms, including the HD Collection that they are a part of. As a result, even Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for the PS3 and PS Vita will be temporarily removed.

Chances are Konami is doing this in case the license renewal for the historical footage could not be renewed in time before they actually expire. This would presumably save them from legal trouble. But for now, it’s probably safe to assume that the company has no date as to when it can get the renewal process done and over with. After all, it has not provided a date as to when the games will be back on the digital storefronts they got removed from.

This comes after last month’s rumours of Konami remaking Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, among its other titles, started surfacing. Alongside the remake would reportedly be the remasters of Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2.
