At last, Samsung has finally launched the fourth entry of its current generation flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S23 FE. Like the company’s many other products which bear the Fan Edition (FE) moniker before it, this particular model is marketed to be the more affordable variant from the original line-up by featuring specifications that fits its price range.
Speaking of which, the new Galaxy S23 FE sports a design language similar to the original trio and is equipped with a 6.4-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, therefore placing it in between the vanilla and Plus variants of the original release in terms of sizing. In detail, the screen offers FHD+ (1080 x 2340 px) resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 16M colour depth, an under-display fingerprint scanner, and comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. In terms of colour options, the phone is available in Mint, Graphite, Cream and Purple, with two more online exclusive colourways which Samsung has yet to announce.
Under the hood is where things get tricky. Samsung says the Galaxy S23 FE variant is equipped with a “powerful octa-core processor” which offers 2.8GHz, 2.5GHz and 1.8GHz clock speeds but according to multiple sources, this could either be a Snapdragon 8 Gen1 or an Exynos 2200 depending on the market the phone is released in. We’ve reached out to Samsung to confirm which of these is included for the local release, and will update you once we’ve received a reply. For now, let’s move on to the rest of its specifications.
In terms of memory, Samsung is offering the new variant with 8GB of RAM and two storage options: 128GB and 256GB. It also comes with Android 13 via One UI 5.1, as well as WiFi, Bluetooth 5.3 and NFC support. Meanwhile, powering it is a 4,500mAh battery with 25W fast charging support via USB-C.
As for imaging, helming its rear triple camera setup is a 50MP primary sensor, which is accompanied by a 12MP ultra-wide and an 8MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom. Flipping over to the front, housed within the punch-hole cutout on its display is a 10MP selfie camera. Like its siblings, also featured on this variant is the brand’s signature Nightography low-light image capture technology and up to 8K video recording capabilities.
The new Samsung Galaxy S23 FE will be available in Malaysia starting 10 October 2023 via the brand’s official website and authorised retailers nationwide. The 8GB + 128GB configuration is priced at RM2,999, while the 8GB + 256GB is at RM3,299. For comparison, the vanilla and Plus variants of the Galaxy S23 currently start at RM3,899 and RM4,699 respectively.
