Meta today has announced the release of a revamped version of its WhatsApp desktop app for Mac. On top of featuring a new UI which the company says is intended to be “familiar to Mac users”, it also now offers users the ability to make both video and audio group calls.
The “familiar” redesign in question actually gives WhatsApp on Mac a look that’s inspired by Apple’s own Messages app, with the aim to allow users on the platform to get more things done faster. Additionally, they can now share files and images with others by simply dragging and dropping them into a chat, as well as view more of their chat history without having to refer back to the mobile version of WhatsApp.
Much like when it was first introduced to Windows users back in March, users on Mac can now initiate both video and audio group calls, with up to a maximum of eight participants for the former and up to 32 for the latter. Other improvements include the ability of letting you join a group call after it has started, view your call history, and receive incoming call notifications even when the app is closed.
The updated desktop version of WhatsApp is available now for all users on Mac, though downloads are only offered via the service’s official website for now. Meta promises that it will add the app to the Apple App Store soon.
