Theory Test For Motorcycle, Car Driving Licence Combined

Earlier this year, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said that his ministry was working on combining the theory exam for motorcycle and car driving licences. Yesterday, he announced that this move will finally be implemented starting 15 September.

The standardised test will see that candidates will only be required to take the theory exam once for either a motorcycle or car licence and thereafter, they won’t need to take it again if they decide to get the other. This is a lot more efficient and will save motorists time and money.

Of course, this exemption only applies to the theory exam itself and not the practical exams on the circuit and the road. Both practical tests are still required for each class of driving licence. Moreover, the curriculum taught in driving classes would be merged, with applicants being required to learn elements for both motorcycle and car handling simultaneously.

“We believe this new ruling will bring benefit to the public as they no longer need to sit for another round of six-hour class just to obtain another licence,” said Loke. The minister added that his ministry expects the public to be able to save RM100 from the new policy.
