Celcom has expanded its 5G offering by introducing the Home Wireless 5G. Prior to this, Celcom customers were only able to connect to 5G via their smartphones.
In general, the introduction of the new Home Wireless 5G plan has made Celcom the second telco in the country to provide 5G-based wireless broadband service to consumers. Previously, only YTL Communications has a such offering in the form of Yes Wireless Fibre 5G plan.
Unlike the Yes plan which has a maximum speed of 120Mbps, the Celcom’s counterpart has no such mention but based on our observations so far, it seemed that the Celcom Home Wireless 5G is being offered in a highly targeted manner. For starters, you would not able to see the plan if you waltz into the Broadband section of Celcom’s website using the standard link at the moment.
Only when you use this particular link, the Celcom Home Wireless 5G section would appear. This is not the first time that the telco has created a customised section for its product though as we have encountered it before when Celcom offered a same-day Home Fibre installation promo in Sabah.
That being said, the FAQ and Terms & Conditions (TnC) for Celcom Home Wireless 5G can be viewed on the telco’s website which are located under the Broadband section of both pages without any secret links. In fact, the FAQ document is how we learned that the Celcom Home Wireless 5G plan is currently being offered only at six bluecube Stores with all of them located just in Klang Valley:
- Sunway Pyramid
- Prima Sri Gombak
- Alamanda Putrajaya
- The Gardens Mid Valley
- Nu Sentral
- Taman Tun Dr Ismail
As for the plan itself, there is only one option which costs RM149 per month. Even though the plan was labelled as Unlimited on the website, its FAQ and TnC documents listed 1TB as its Fair Usage Policy (FUP) limit.
If you overshoot it, the speed would be throttled to 512kbps but one can elevate the speed limit by purchasing an additional quota which starts at RM10 for 50GB with a validity of 24 hours. If you need a longer validity period, there are 20GB and 40GB add-on options which would last until the end of the billing cycle but are priced much higher at RM40 and RM70, respectively.
The FAQ document also noted that this plan comes together with a ZTE MC801A indoor 5G CPE which is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 and has dual-band Wi-Fi 6 alongside the capability to support up to 30 users at the same time. For those who are wondering, yes, the CPE would fall back to 4G when it is not able to connect to 5G.
In addition to that, existing Celcom Home Wireless 4G customers that want to shift to the 5G plan have to terminate their current plan and obtain the 5G plan as a brand-new registration altogether. As you can tell, there are plenty of things you need to be aware of if you are interested to sign up for this plan which is why we do recommend you go through its FAQ and TnC documents before committing to the plan.
