Of all the ways for a texting app to get banned in a country, the one anyone would least expect would be because the people running it didn’t check their emails. But it looks like that’s just what happened in Brazil for Telegram. Of course, there are bigger issues between the two, but those could potentially be resolved if it wasn’t for the email problem.
For context, the Brazilian Supreme Court had issues with Telegram being used for spreading disinformation. The latter’s CEO Pavel Durov told the court to send takedown notices of disinformation groups to a dedicated email. But then the court ended up not doing that, sending notices to “the old general-purpose email address”.
On one hand, it does look like Telegram is taking the issue of disinformation seriously. But on the other, it’s still funny that emails were the cause of it getting banned. in Brazil. You can read the statement in full in Durov’s channel, linked below.
