NVIDIA Issues Driver Hotfix For High CPU Usage Caused By Recent Update

NVIDIA Game Ready Driver Hotfix Update

If you’re an NVIDIA GPU user and have noticed that your CPU usage is abnormally higher than usual after updating the Game Ready Driver to the most recent version, then you’re not alone. Thankfully, the manufacturer has already come up with a solution for this issue, which is available via a hotfix download.

In the patch note, it is stated that the problem is caused by a bug in the NVIDIA container app, which causes it to hog over 10% of CPU usage whenever you log in or close a game. Users have reported to have noticed this dip in performance after updating their Game Ready Drivers to Version 531.18, which was released on 28 February 2023. Prior to the hotfix’s release, reverting back to the previous version of the drivers can be used as a temporary measure to resolve the issue.

As mentioned earlier, the hotfix (bearing the version number 531.26) is now available for download via the NVIDIA GeForce Experience interface. Alternatively, you can acquire the patch via the company’s official website through this link if the prompt to update has not yet appeared on your version of the app. And in case you’re wondering, the download size for this particular patch is over 870 MB.

On a related note, last week’s Game Ready Drivers patch also included NVIDIA’s new RTX Super Resolution (VSR) AI-based upscaling tool. To recap, this recently introduced feature allows users to upscale lower resolution images and videos up to 4K – all in real-time.

For videos, VSR also works with content offered by streaming services such as Netflix and Disney+, Hulu, and so on. However, keep in mind that the tool will only work on compatible Chromium-based web browsers or more specifically, Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

NVIDIA notes that VSR is compatible with its Ampere or Ada Lovelace-powered GPUs including the RTX 3050, 3050 Ti, 3060, 3060 Ti, 3070, 3070 Ti, 3080, 3080 Ti, 3090, 3090 Ti, 4070 Ti, 4080, and 4090. Higher quality settings, on the other hand, are only available with the RTX 3070 or better, and RTX 4070 Ti or better GPUs.
