Following the massive bombshell dropped onto Activision Blizzard by the Wall Street Journal last week, a number of the company’s employees have called for CEO Bobby Kotick to step down. Since then, sources to WSJ have said that Kotick told company executives that it may happen.
More specifically, the report states that Kotick may consider stepping down it he can’t quickly fix the company’s work environment. The line is vague in many ways, including the lack of a deadline as to when the fix can be expected, as well as what constitutes as the fix itself.
According to the report, Kotick made the claim when meeting with leaders of Activision Publishing and Blizzard Entertainment. During the meeting, executives mentioned that some employees won’t be satisfied until Kotick leaves his position as company CEO, which he has been for 30 years. According to VGC, nearly 1800 employees, making up about 18% of the company’s workforce, have signed an internal petition calling for the CEO to step down.
This new development isn’t really any indication of change that many may be hoping for. Most telling is the lack of a quantifiable date that serves as a deadline as to when Bobby Kotick expects that he can improve the work environment at Activision Blizzard.
