Netflix has officially released its Play Something feature globally for android users. The feature has been in the works since earlier this year and is basically a shuffle button where Netflix takes the wheel and chooses something for you to watch.
The feature suggests a new show or movie based on what you’ve watched before, and might even bring up content that you started but haven’t finished yet. Following this is another newly introduced function known as Fast Laughs, which provides a highlight reel of funny clips based on Netflix’s series and films. Due to this, some amusingly have referred to this feature as Netflix’s own TikTok clone. It was released on iOS earlier this year and is now also available on Android mobile devices in certain countries, including the US, Australia, Canada, Ireland, India, Philippines, the UK, and Malaysia.
Speaking of platform availability, both of the new additions are currently available for both Android TVs and mobile devices. The company says it’s still working on the iOS version and will begin testing it in a few months. Nevertheless, Netflix also revealed that it is bringing Downloads For You, a feature first introduced on Android, to iPhones in the coming month. This particular feature will automatically download new episodes or movies for offline viewing based on your watch history. Do keep in mind that it requires users to opt-in, and you’ll also be able to set a limit on how much storage space the feature uses.
On a related note, Netflix has been adding a slew of features and incentives to its mobile apps to attract more customers through interactivity. The platform had recently announced a new gaming feature that is heavily focused on mobile gaming, and also had given limited free access to its contents for Android users in Kenya.
