DJI yesterday unveiled the Action 2, the successor to its 2019 Osmo Action – a straightforward rival to GoPro cameras, especially in terms of function and design. Unlike its predecessor, the new product arrives in a more compact form factor, along with unique modular capabilities that allows users to customise it further by magnetically attaching compatible accessories.
On its own, the DJI Action 2 is seriously tiny – coming in at 39×39×22.3 mm and weighing at only 56g. It is even small and light enough to be worn as a necklace, among other possible ways for it to be mounted on your person. As mentioned earlier, the Action 2 attaches itself to a planned wide variety of accessories ranging from tripods, additional screens, and many more.
DJI currently only has two add-on modules for the action camera so far: a power pack for longer usage, and a secondary screen attachment. In regards to the latter, you’ve probably already noticed that Action 2 lacks a front-facing LCD display, unlike its predecessor. Therefore if you prefer something similar to that, you’ll have to opt for the Dual-Screen Combo which includes the secondary screen module, among other things. More on the bundles a bit later.
Under the hood, the new DJI Action 2 features a 12MP sensor with a lens that provides a 155-degree field of view. For videos, the camera is able to record at 4K resolution and 120 frames per second, and 240fps slow-motion footage at 1080p. Features-wise, there’s electronic stabilisation, horizon levelling, a colour temperature sensor, and even a webcam function for live streaming.
On the back of the device is a Gorilla Glass protected 1.76-inch OLED touchscreen for you to preview your shots and to control certain settings. Also included is a 32GB of internal storage capacity which can be expanded further via a microSD card. Powering it is a 580mAh battery which DJI claims is able to last up to 70 minutes of usage. Like its predecessor, the Action 2 is also waterproof and could withstand depths as deep as 10 meters without using a waterproof case.
The DJI Action 2 is now available for purchase in Malaysia via the DJI official online store on Lazada and Shopee, as well as its official authorised retail store. As we’ve mentioned before, DJI is currently offering it in two different bundles and unfortunately, there is no option to purchase the camera as a standalone.
The first is the Dual-Screen Combo at RM2,499, which includes the Action 2, a front touchscreen module, magnetic lanyard, magnetic ball-joint adapter mount, and a magnetic adapter mount. Next is the Power Combo at RM1,999, which consists of the camera, a power module, magnetic lanyard, and magnetic adapter mount.
