Razer has officially launched its Zephyr face mask with built-in air purification system. As most of us are aware, the new product spawned from a prototype known as “Project Hazel” earlier this year during CES 2021. Proven popular with its fans, the gaming firm greenlit the project several months after its introduction and also rebranded the finalised product as “Zephyr.”
The new face mask sports the same design as it was originally unveiled under the new moniker in August this year. According to the press release, the Zephyr is equipped with N95 grade filters with two-way protection that lasts three times longer than single-use disposable masks. Razer says that the filters are FDA-registered and certified as 99% BFE (bacterial filtration efficiency), and are enhanced by a pair of 2-speed (4200/6200 RPM) fans that allows for increased air circulation through the mask’s air exchange chambers for “better cooling, providing freshly filtered air and increased comfort.”
Speaking of comfort, the Razer Zephyr is lightweight and comes with a soft silicone internal face seal that rests around your nose and mouth. In addition, it also comes with adjustable head and neck straps that provide a secure and snug fit.
Then there’s the “social enhancement” features on the Zephyr. First being the mouthguard, which sports a transparent design with anti-fog coating and interior lights for “clear facial expressions.” Next up is the internal microphones and speakers that pick up and amplify the user’s voice for conversations – a feature that is also present in another facemask with an air purification system, LG’s PuriCare.
Being a Razer product, it is unsurprising to learn that the Zephyr also features the brand’s obligatory Chroma RGB lighting system. For those who wish to customise the mask’s built-in lighting to their own personal preference, you may do so via the Razer Zephyr companion app that is available for both iOS and Android devices.
As for pricing, Razer lists the Zephyr to be available in two options: just the mask itself for US$100 (~RM415), and a Starter Pack bundle with three replacement filter kits for US$150 (~RM622). Razer fans in Malaysia will probably have to wait a while longer before they can get their own Zephyr units due to two reasons.
Firstly, the new face mask is only available for the US market for now, with no plans for a global (or local) release announced. Secondly, it sold out as soon as it was announced. Regarding the last bit, it is suspected that shortages may have caused the product’s unintended limited availability.
