iPad render

The basic iPad is the last of the Apple tablets to not get the iPad Pro redesign. In other words, it is the only one to not have flat and blocky sides, as well as the only one to not support the generation Pencil and replace the Lightning port with a USB-C port. Though that may change when the company announced the next generation of the tablet.

MySmartPrice claims to have CAD renders of the next-generation iPad, which are claimed to have come from an accessory maker. The most important takeaway from said renders is that the tablet may finally be getting the redesign to give it a more uniform look with the other iPad models. And on the surface, it looks to be just that simple; the render depicts a blockier tablet, the presence of a USB-C port, as well as the absence of both the Lightning port and the 3.5mm audio jack.

But things get a little confusing when we look at the render showing the front of the tablet. Unlike the other models in the extended family, the next-generation basic iPad appears to retain the round home button. This is also claimed to be the one to house the device’s Touch ID feature, rather than the power button, which is the case for all the other iPad models that have gotten the redesign. The Home button also means thicker bezels on both the top and bottom of the screen.

This one major inconsistency though serves as an important reminder to take images like these with a healthy dose of scepticism. With that in mind, other bits of information include measurements of 248.62 x 179.50 x 6.98 mm, as well as a single rear camera and an LED flash, both of which sit in a pill-shaped camera island.
