After months of leaks and teasers, the sixth generation Google Pixel phones have finally made their official debut last night. The design for both Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 6 have actually been revealed back in August, together with the fact that they are powered by Google Tensor which is the company’s first-ever in-house processor.
Pixel 6 Pro is equipped with a 6.7-inch LTPO OLED display with QHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate while the smaller Pixel 6 carries a 6.4-inch Full HD+ 90Hz OLED display. Both displays are protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus which Google also used on the back of Pixel 6 Pro but opted for Gorilla Glass 6 instead as the back glass for Pixel 6.
Meanwhile, the Pixel 6 Pro features 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM while the Pixel 6’s memory is slightly smaller at 8GB. Both phones are also equipped with UFS 3.1-based storage and have been designed to meet the IP68 standard which means they should be able to survive water splashes as well as some dust.
In terms of photography, both phones have a 50MP main camera and a 12MP ultra-wide camera alongside an LDAF sensor. However, Pixel 6 Pro has an additional 48MP telephoto camera with 4x optical zoom capability and a higher resolution 11.1MP selfie camera as opposed to the 8MP sensor on Pixel 6.
Both devices also come with different battery capacities as Pixel 6 Pro is equipped with a larger 5003mAh battery. Pixel 6 owners will have to be content with a 4614mAh battery which to be fair, is still bigger than many phones out there.
Price-wise, the Pixel 6 Pro 128GB costs US$899 (~RM3,736) while the 256GB and 512GB variants are priced at US$999 (~RM4,152) and US$1,099 (~RM4,567), respectively. On another hand, the Pixel 6 128GB is listed at US$599 (~RM2,490) and the 256GB model goes for US$699 (~RM2,905).
As you may know, Made by Google products are not officially available in Malaysia and that still applies to the new Pixel 6 as well as the Pixel 6 Pro. That being said, expect them to be offered by parallel importers soon enough, given their popularity among some consumers that are willing to spend extra money to get Pixel phones on their hands despite not being released here.
