Xiaomi 14 Pro Reportedly Remaining As A China Exclusive Release

Xiaomi fansite and community portal Xiaomiui is alleging that the brand has no plans of releasing the Pro variant of its newly launched next-gen flagship smartphone series outside of China. According to its latest report, it has been discovered via official Xiaomi servers that development for the global version of its HyperOS software is only being worked on for the standard Xiaomi 14, hence this speculation.

Xiaomiui claims that the brand has halted work on the HyperOS Global version for Xiaomi 14 Pro, and has not released an updated build for almost two months. Xiaomi is expected to introduce its next-gen flagships internationally by early 2024, therefore the cessation of development could suggest that the high-end variant might miss this window, or will remain as a China exclusive.

While uncommon, it’s not the first time that Xiaomi has actually kept a variant from its existing product line-up from launching internationally. The closest example being the Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro from 2021, which did not see a global release despite debuting alongside the Ultra variant in China. The company did not say why the phone was never released elsewhere, but it is believed that this is intended to pave the way for the series’ top-end model. That being said, an Ultra variant for the new Xiaomi 14 line-up is expected, so there’s a chance that we might see a repeat of this, provided that Xiaomiui’s speculation is accurate.

It is also likely that Xiaomi may stagger the releases of its current-gen flagship series for the global market, meaning that the Pro will only be released much later. That, or the company may have shifted the newer builds of the variant’s HyperOS development to a different server in order to preserve secrecy. Xiaomiui did note that it had previously leaked information from the official servers before, so it’s unsurprising if Xiaomi resorted to certain preventive measures after that.

Regardless, we’ll only know whether the fansite’s prediction is accurate or not once Xiaomi itself confirms this. As mentioned earlier, recent rumours are suggesting that the company is planning to debut its new Xiaomi 14 flagship smartphone series globally in January, so an official announcement may not be too far off.
