Ministry of Transport Extends Deadline On Driving Licence and Road Tax Renewal To 31 December

The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has decided to once again extend the deadline for the public to renew their Malaysian Driving Licenses (LMM) to 31 December 2021. The same also applies to the Motor Vehicle Licenses (LKM) or road tax, as per what most of us call it.

Previously, both of these permits were required renewal by 30 September as per the directive by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) last month. Not surprisingly, many have rushed to do so but immediately encountered difficulties as the appointment slots for renewal at JPJ and Pos Malaysia branches were extremely limited.

With today’s announcement, individuals with expired licence and road tax will continue to be safe from enforcement actions by JPJ or Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM). At the same time, JPJ has also decided to discontinue its online appointment system and will allow fully vaccinated individuals to obtain services at its premises via walk-in starting from 6 September 2021 onwards.

In fact, JPJ’s service counters, as well as PUSPAKOM, will operate at 100% capacity starting from the same day too. Nevertheless, MOT still recommends the public to use online services provided by partners such as MyEG and JPJ’s own MySikap to avoid overcrowding at on-ground locations.
