ERL KLIA Trains To Resume Operation on 13 September

Express Rail Link (ERL) has announced that its KLIA Express and KLIA Transit commuter services will begin to ferry passengers again next Monday, 13 September. Both services were previously suspended back in June due to a lack of passengers to the airport as non-essential air travel is being prohibited as a direct result of the global pandemic.

Running as a combined service, the trains will run from 6:00 AM to 10:10 PM daily on an hourly interval although ERL has noted that the schedule may change to suit the actual rate of ridership. The journey time from KL to KLIA will be 35 minutes, with an additional 5 minutes to go to KLIA2 as each train will stop at the KLIA transit station.

The company also said that 99% of its staff are fully vaccinated, including 100% of its frontline and operations staff, with a few individuals who couldn’t get the jab for medical reasons. They also claim that the trains are cleaned on a daily basis, so commuters can be assured of their safety when travelling.

In conjunction with the resumption, users with a registered MyKad will get a free weekly ‘TravelCard’ for every purchase of the KLIA Transit Monthly TravelCard and a discount of up to 83%. “The promotion will start immediately and will run until Nov 30, 2021, to encourage more people who are going back to their office or workplace to start using public transportation again for their daily commute,” ERL said in a statement.

A PSA regarding social distancing by ERL in October 2020, clearly inspired by the popular game Among Us.

The announcement comes after Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob agreed to bump up the whole of Klang Valley, covering Selangor, KL, and Putrajaya, from Phase 1 to Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan. This means that citizens are free to move about in the region, with no roadblocks preventing inter-district travel.
