Apart from its already expensive price tag of US$3,499 (~RM16,270) and appointment-only availability, it appears that Apple continues to make its upcoming Vision Pro headset a bit harder to obtain. In a new report, it is revealed that the company has recently sent an email to customers, notifying them to provide a face scan if they wish to pre-order it.
According to Engadget, users are required to use Face ID for the scan via an Apple iPhone or iPad device. Reason behind this is that the data provided will ensure a precise band fit on the headset once it launches on 2 February 2023, as officially announced by the company’s CEO Tim Cook on X (formerly Twitter) last week. Of course, this only applies to certain markets, namely the US, as international availability for the Vision Pro has yet to be confirmed.

In addition, those who require vision correction are required to supply an updated official prescription document when pre-ordering the headset in order to get optical inserts by Zeiss. These are designed to magnetically attach to the headset and would cost an additional fee, with readers priced at US$99 (~RM460) while prescription lenses at $149 (~RM). The inserts will only be available online, though Apple notes that “not all prescriptions are supported.”
As mentioned earlier, none of these concern Malaysian consumers, at least not yet. However, it is still uncertain whether Apple will actually bring the Vision Pro to the local market. That being said, you can expect to fulfill similar requirements if you wish to pre-order the headset once it eventually arrives.
