As announced on social media yesterday, communication minister Fahmi Fadzil today has introduced Pakej P-Hailing RAHMAH, an initiative which offers gig economy workers (both drivers and riders) with exclusive mobile internet plans at accessible prices. The package is the result of a strategic collaboration among local telecommunications service providers including CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, Unifi Mobile and Yes 5G, as well as local P-Hailing platforms including FoodPanda, Grab, Bungkusit, Halo Delivery, iHantar, Lalamove, MatDespatch, Parcel365, RideRunner, Shopee, Fasz Food, Lazada Logistics, Belibeli, iGoGet, GoGet, and GoLog.
Pakej P-Hailing RAHMAH will comprise of mobile plans offered by the five aforementioned telcos at a starting price of RM33, featuring a minimum data allowance of 40GB. Each package is unique according to the agreement between participating telcos and p-hailing platforms. In its FAQ, MCMC notes that Pakej P-Hailing RAHMAH does not have a bound contract and users are allowed to cancel it at any time. However, those cancelling their subscriptions will be imposed with a minimal penalty for the SIM card plan.
The plan is available now until 23 April 2024, and is open to all drivers and riders who are Malaysian citizens registered under participating p-hailing providers, while subscription terms are subject to the terms and conditions set by each telco. Eligible drivers and riders will be identified by their respective p-hailing service provider, and an invitation to subscribe to the package will be provided through a notification via their respective mobile applications.
The FAQ also revealed that gig economy workers who are still bound by contract package devices with any telco can still subscribe to Pakej P-Hailing RAHMAH with a new sim plan. Meanwhile, those currently attached to an existing plan or enterprise package are allowed to do so as well, but subject to the terms and conditions that have been agreed between participating telcos and p-hailing service providers.
