The Apple Vision Pro is the next big thing by the fruit company, and the first new product category since the Apple Watch. Those with early access or hands-on experience with the headset though report that, for a very premium product, it comes with its own set of issues. But that hasn’t stopped the item from appearing on eBay, either with straight up scalper mark ups, or even auctions.
If you need a reminder, the Apple Vision Pro has an official asking price of US$3,499 (~RM16,570). So with the listing, it’s no surprise to see that these resellers are pricing their headsets at US$4,000 (~RM18,942) or higher, all the way up to US$9,000 (~RM42,620). Then there are the bids that, at the time of writing, still listed under the retail price. It won’t be surprising if these get cancelled if the last bid doesn’t exceed said retain price.
On one hand, the appeal of the Apple Vision Pro is easy to see, even if the fruit branding is doing a lot of heavy lifting on that front. But on the other, it’s always worrying to see this amount of support for the scalper economy. Making things worse is that the people bidding are probably unaware that the iPhone maker takes a scan of a buyer’s face to ensure that the headset fits their would be owners properly. Add all of this up, and people are paying an added premium for a headset that may not fit their head nicely.
For now, it’s unclear if the fruit company is aware of its Apple Vision Pro headsets being resold before it even becomes officially available. And if so, what kind of action the company will take against these resellers, if any at all.
