We’ve seen recent first official teaser of the ASUS ROG Phone 8 earlier in the week, and it looks like the brand has more in its drip feed. On its official account on X, formerly Twitter, the company has announced that it will be unveiling the phone on 8 January as part of the CES 2024 showcase.
Said post doesn’t actually reveal much more on the ASUS ROG Phone 8, but another post promoting a blind camera test shows off the camera island of the device much more clearly. On the surface, we see a triple camera setup, but the blind camera test suggests that the brand is confident with the phone’s photography capabilities. Which is not something that most gaming phones’ strong points, so it will be interesting to see the way this pans out once the phone actually becomes available.
And on that note, the official ASUS account on Weibo posted the dates for a launch event, presumably on the social media platform’s home market of China. It’s entirely possible that the ASUS ROG Phone 8 will be launching elsewhere in the world simultaneously, but we probably wouldn’t bet on it.
Going back to the post itself though, it also comes with a short clip showing the ASUS ROG Phone 8 sporting a punch-hole cutout for the front-facing camera, with bezels in general getting trimmed down. This looks to come at the cost of proper front-facing stereo speakers, as it doesn’t look like there’s space for that. The post also showcases two possible colourways for the phone, both sporting the ROG branding in RGB lighting.
We’ve already seen part of the spec sheet for the ASUS ROG Phone 8 thanks to its appearance on Geekbench, which revealed the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and up to 24GB of RAM. Granted, that last one is attributed to the Ultimate variant, so it remains to be seen what the base model will sport. All of this will probably be revealed come 8 January.
