Back in September, Apple included the AirPods Pro in its updated lineup of devices with USB-C, with the earbuds moving to a charging case equipped with the universal charging port. Now, the tech giant has started offering the new USB-C case separately for 2nd gen owners who bought their AirPods before the transition.
Aside from the new port, it has all the same functions as the Lightning case including the U1 chip for precision finding, a built-in speaker, and a lanyard loop. There is, however, one notable upgrade which is the switch from a rating of IPX4 to IP54, giving the case improved dust resistance.
Priced at RM449, the MagSafe-compatible charging case can now be purchased on its own through the company’s website with a shipping time of 2-3 weeks. In the box, the case even comes with an included USB-C charging cable.
This allows owners of the 2nd gen AirPods Pro to upgrade to USB-C without purchasing the updated model. Of course, this also means that regardless of what case you originally had, owners can now replace just the case itself in the event you lose it or it somehow broke without having to buy a whole new set of earbuds entirely.
