Sony will remove integration with X (formerly known as Twitter) from its PlayStation 4 and 5 video game consoles starting 13 November 2023. This was revealed by the company via a notice sent directly to users on its consoles, which has also been recently added to the PlayStation support page on its official website.
According to the company, users will soon lose the ability to post and view content, trophies and other gameplay-related activities on X directly from their PS4 or PS5. Those who still wish to share their content to the social media platform are encouraged to utilise alternative means instead, such as using the first-party PlayStation mobile app to capture and share clips or screenshots from their consoles.
Sony did not reveal why the integration has been discontinued on the PS4 and PS5, though it is likely due to X’s decision to lock its API (Application Programming Interface) behind a paywall earlier this year. In short, the move forces developers and companies to pay if they wish to integrate the platform’s services to their devices or applications. It’s also worth noting that Microsoft had also removed the ability for Xbox users to directly share content on X in April this year, likely due to the same reason.
We have had to disable the ability to share game uploads to Twitter directly from the console and Game Bar on Windows. You can still share your favorite moments to Twitter via the Xbox app for Android and iOS.

On a somewhat related note, the social media platform has recently introduced a new livestream feature which allows for various types of content to be shared live on its feed. Unfortunately, X users on consoles won’t be able utilise this new addition due to recent developments, with the exception of relying on third-party approaches such as capture cards and so on.
