Spotify Raises The Price For Most Subscription Plans In Malaysia

Spotify Adele 30

Last week, Spotify raised its subscription prices in several markets with Malaysia being one the few countries safe from the hike. Unfortunately, the streaming giant has updated its list of affected countries to include Malaysia, raising the price across all its premium offerings with the exception of the Mini plan.

The individual Premium subscription sees a RM1 price increase from RM14.90 per month to RM15.90. On the other hand, its Duo plan gets the biggest bump from RM19.80 monthly to RM21.50. If you’re not familiar with Duo, it allows two people living under one roof to share an account, which is perfect for housemates or couples.

The Family Premium subscription is being raised from RM23.80 to RM24.90 per month. Users on this plan should be the least affected given that it allows for up to six accounts. Lastly, the Student plan is also being affected with Spotify increasing the price from RM7.50 per month to RM8.50.

As previously mentioned, the only offering not affected by this price hike is the Mini plan, which still costs RM0.75 per day or RM2.90 weekly. Oddly enough, this means that getting the weekly plan rather than the monthly individual plan would save you RM40 per year, although you would be limited to downloading 30 songs at a time for offline play.

The updated pricing has already taken effect for new subscribers. According to an email from Spotify that was blasted to users, existing subscribers will only start being charged the new prices from their September billing date onwards.
