Sony A6700 Coming To Malaysia

Sony has officially unveiled its new Alpha 6700 (A6700) flagship APS-C mirrorless camera last night. The shooter, which is a successor to the company’s A6600 model from 2019, comes with an upgraded sensor, AI capabilities, built-in image stabilisation, and the ability to record high frame rate 4K videos.

The A6700 has the same form factor as its predecessor but features updated layouts for its shutter, dial and buttons, as well as a bigger girl and a new vari-angle LCD screen. The latter of which comes with a 7.5cm TFT touch panel with 1.03 million dot resolution, and is accompanied by a 1cm electronic viewfinder with 2.3 million dot resolution and supports up to 120fps. Besides that, the camera also has mic and headphone ports, hotshoe, a USB-C 3.2, a micro HDMI port, and a single SD UHS-II card slot. Meanwhile, its body is built to be both dust and moisture resistant.

On the inside, the new Sony APS-C mirrorless flagship is equipped with a 26MP back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor, the latest Bionz XR image processing engine, and a dedicated AI processing unit. Additionally, it also has  5-axis in-body image stabilisation, native ISO range of 100 to 102,400, and 14+ stops of dynamic range.

The company says the A6700 is capable of 11fps continuous shooting in both mechanical and electronic shutter modes, and record 4K videos that are super-sampled from 6K at up to 120fps with 10-bit 4:2:2 quality and full AF/AE tracking. It also offers All-I, FHD/240p, as well as S-Cinetone and S-Log3 profiles. In addition, Sony says you can also hook the camera up to a PC and use it as a webcam.

Thanks to its new hardware and AI capabilities, the A6700 allows for auto-framing, active mode stabilisation that combines both digital and optical anti-shake approaches, as well as better autofocus and tracking. In regards to the latter, subject real-time recognition includes people, eyes, animals, vehicles and more. And like other recent cameras from Sony, the new shooter also supports digital focus breathing compensation with compatible lenses.

The Sony A6700 is priced at US$1,399 (~RM6,445) for body only, US$1,499 (~RM6,906) when paired together with a 16-50mm kit lens, or US$1,699 (~RM7,827) with the 18-135mm. The company adds that the camera is slated to be shipped out in August for the US market, while its arrival to Malaysia is expected sometime in September this year. Local pricing for the A6700, however, has yet to be announced.
