Alleged AMD Ryzen 5 5600X3D Details Leak

Details allegedly belonging to an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X3D have leaked online. The fact that such purported details are coming out long after AMD has moved on from its aging AM4 chipset is a little odd, but not entirely unwelcomed, to say the least.

To quickly recap, AMD first introduced its 3D V-Cache technology with the launch of its Ryzen 7 5800X3D, an 8-cores, 16-threads CPU that is widely regarded as one of the best gaming CPUs of the lineup. And that is despite the fact that it cannot be physically overclocked. What makes X3D CPUs so special is that it has anywhere from double or triple the amount of L3 Cache, thanks in no small part to the chiplet design, achieved by stacking the caches vertically, instead of laterally.

News of the alleged 5600X3D was initially leaked by leakster chi11eddog (@g01d3nm4ng0), who shared a cut out of an image that describes an X3D processors for the AM4 platform. At the front of that hose numbers and details, you can see the designation and name of the CPU in question.

Based on the image, the 5600X3D is a 6-cores, 12-threads CPU that shares the same L3 Cache size as the 5800X3D, which 96MB. As for its base and boost clock speeds, the CPU is supposedly listed as having a 3.3GHz base and 4.4GHz boost. That’s 100MHz slower than the base and boost clocks of the 5800X3D, by the way.

As with all unconfirmed sources, this news about the 5600X3D should be taken a very large sprinkling of salt. In all likelihood, this CPU may have been planned alongside the initial launch of the 5800X3D but AMD decided that it would never saw the light the day, primarily due to the negligible difference in speeds between the two. Also, Team Red is clearly moving on with its current Ryzen 7000X3D and accompanying AM5 platform, so if there is any reason for brand to make a more affordable 3D V-Cache CPU, it would be with Zen 4, and not with last-gen technology.
