AMD Radeon RX 6950XT Rumoured To Be Faster Than GeForce RTX 3090 Ti In 3DMark

AMD’s Radeon 6×50 series refreshed graphics cards are expected to launch this 10 May, with the cards expected to show a performance uptick against both the standard 6000 series and NVIDIA’s Ampere-powered GPUs. On that note, information about the Radeon RX 6950XT’s synthetic benchmarks seems to have appeared ahead of the card’s launch.

The source of the card’s synthetic benchmark performance stems from Wccftech and more precisely, the card’s benchmark seemingly come from UL’s 3DMark Time Spy test. In this case, the scores that were recorded were simply its graphics score. Overall, the chart from the site shows the 6950XT actually outperforming NVIDIA’s own current king-of-the-hill card, the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, by an average of 2000 points. In other words, an approximately 6% to 7% increase in performance.

While this may look bad for NVIDIA, we don’t actually find the 6950XT’s pull ahead to be quite as impressive, especially since synthetic benchmarks are not representative of a card’s performance as a whole. On another note, AMD’s Radeon 6000 series cards have a habit of pulling ahead of the competition in a synthetic environment, but not in real-world applications; when we tested the original 6900XT and 6800XT, both the cards were dominant forces in 3DMark.

However, when it came to gaming, both cards were inconsistent in their performance, with some titles working in their favour, while some weren’t.

In any case, we’ll just have to wait until 10 May to learn more about these cards and what we can expect from them in terms of gaming performance, at least.
