Tesla Ships Out Some Of Its Cars Without USB Ports

Tesla Cars Without USB Ports

Numerous customers have reported receiving brand new Tesla cars with missing USB Type-C ports, with only empty holes in their place. The issue seems to affect new Model 3s and Model Ys.

Customers who recently received their cars have reported that their center console and, for some, even their rear console are missing USB ports – along with wireless charging capability. According to Elektrek, Tesla is blaming the issue on the global chip shortage, which has affected supply chains for all sorts of industries.

Reports on the affected cars were shared just recently, with the latest being the USB-equipped Model Y delivered to customers on 6 November. The new owners were reportedly not informed of this decision by Tesla, and those that contacted the automaker were informed to schedule an appointment with their local service center in December in order to have the problem rectified.

Tesla had recorded sales and profits despite supply chain issues by doing some tinkering such as chip swapping, but it was also affected enough that the company decided to remove lumbar support for passenger seats. The EV company isn’t alone, as plenty of automakers have had to shut down production lines and take desperate measures due to the semiconductor shortage. BMW similarly removed passenger lumbar support, as well as removing touchscreen controls from certain models.
