Back in April, we saw reports of one Gary Bowser getting sued by Nintendo of America for selling hacks for the Nintendo Switch. Alongside him was Max Louarn, another member of the Xecuter hacker group. Since then, Bowser has plead guilty.
Court documents indicate that Bowser and Louarn were both charged with 11 felony counts for selling hack devices and operating the websites that sell them. Among them are Axiogame.com and Maxconsole.com, as well as the team-xecuter.com websites.
But rather than facing trial, Bowser pleaded guilty to two of them, specifically the Trafficking in Circumvention Devices, and Conspiracy to Circumvent Technological Measures. Interestingly, he also voluntarily offered to pay Nintendo US$4.5 million, as well as help locate remaining members of team Xecuter.
As part of the plea deal, the remaining nine charges are dropped, but while this increases the chance for a reduced sentence, Bowser could still be sent to prison for the two charges. TorrentFreak reports that the court has yet to issue a final sentence.
It’s worth noting that all this is the resolution of criminal charges brought to Bowser by the US government. The Nintendo lawsuit as per reports back in April this year is still ongoing. Bowser has yet to respond to that suit.
