When you think Dragon Ball for video games, fighting games usually come to mind. Indeed, there have been plenty over the years, so now Bandai Namco has something very different coming next year. The title is Dragon Ball: The Breakers, and it’s an interesting mix of Dead by Daylight and Evolve, but of course in the Dragon Ball universe.
The premise is like the two other games mentioned, with its own Dragon Ball twist. Each gameplay session will have eight players, with one player playing a prominent villain, and the other as a regular civilian survivor. This means no Super Saiyans facing off the baddies. Instead, the seven survivors will have to work together to escape the instance.
Based on the announcement, the villain, or Raider, can only be a prominent character. The trailer shows Cell being the raider, starting off in his larval form and evolving stage by stage, all the way to his perfect form. It’s easy to imagine the same being done for Frieza, though not quite so for Majin Buu, another villain in the game, judging from the promo image.
As for the survivors, there’s probably a selection of non Saiyan characters from Dragon Ball to choose from, like Bulma or Oolong. Beyond that, there’s also custom character creation, with cosmetics being unlocked via gameplay. Kotaku reports that Dragon Ball: The Breakers will feature save data linking with Xenoverse 2, so you can probably import your custom character from the latter.
Dragon Ball: The Breakers will be out some time in 2022, for virtually all platforms besides mobile. There’s also a closed beta for PC coming up, but no date as to when that is just yet.
