Leica has officially launched the 007 Edition of its Leica Q2 to celebrate the release of the upcoming James Bond film, No Time To Die. According to the company, only 250 units of the mirrorless camera are made available worldwide for this occasion.
If you’re feeling a sense of dejavu from this announcement, that’s because we’ve actually featured this exact version of the Leica Q2 when it was originally leaked almost a year ago by Japan-based industry insider Nikoshita. It is very likely that the German camera manufacturer originally intended to launch the 007 Edition late last year, but then postponed the announcement due to the delay of No Time To Die. This variant is also not to be confused with the Leica Q2 Daniel Craig x Greg Williams Limited Edition that was released earlier this year in February.
In terms of design, the camera appears exactly as what was previously revealed by the leakster. Surrounding the camera is a olive green leather finish, along with the spy’s signature “007” branding on the top and back of its body. Other than that, the rest of the Leica Q2 is pretty much unchanged from when it originally released back in 2019.
The same can be said for its internal hardware as well. To quickly recap, the Leica Q2 (and its 007 Edition variant) features a 47.3MP full-frame sensor, a 3.68 OLED electronic viewfinder, and a 3-inch LCD touchscreen display. Featured together with the mirrorless camera is a Leica Summilux 28mm f/1.7 ASPH prime lens with macro capability, and a James Bond-themed mount cap – featuring the film franchise’s iconic gun barrel interior as a design motif.
Also included in the package is a vintage-looking limited edition Globe-Trotter case, which is custom made to store the Leica Q2 007 Edition. Much like the camera itself, the carrying case sports the same olive green colour scheme, along with dark brown accents and silver press locks.
The new Leica Q2 007 Edition is priced at RM35,000 and is now available in Malaysia via the brand’s official website and physical store in Avenue K, Kuala Lumpur. Meanwhile, No Time To Die is slated to be released in cinemas locally on 30 September 2021.
