Transport minister Anthony Loke has announced an exciting new feature on the MyJPJ app that allows users to share their road tax in digital form. This allows you to give permission to other people to drive your car if you opted for an “e-LKM” instead of a road tax sticker.

The “Kongsi LKM” feature can be found in the app by clicking on the licence plate number of the relevant vehicle and using the share button. Not only can you give the digital road tax for other people to use, but you can also set a sharing time limit to ensure nobody can abuse it.

Moreover, the function will come with an activation code that needs to be given to the recipient in order the activate the shared road tax. If the code isn’t activated within 24 hours, the system will delete the sharing record automatically.

The minister stated that the department introduced the feature to address the issues faced by those borrowing cars. Previously, you could print the digital road tax but that method apparently came with “various issues”. Additionally, the transport ministry will also be introducing security papers to replace vehicle licence stickers and physical driving licences.

e-LKM - Digital Road Tax

In case you missed it, another big update coming to MyJPJ is that starting 1 February 2024, Malaysian motorists will be able renew their digital road tax and driving licence through the app, skipping the physical queues entirely. To encourage people to join the digitalisation effort, the ministry is giving a RM5 rebate to those who renew online for a limited time.
