WhatsApp Officially Enables Sending Uncompressed Photos And Videos

WhatsApp has quietly rolled out a long-awaited feature that gives users the option to send media in its original quality. This means that users of the messaging app can finally send photos and videos without them being compressed, but of course, there is a caveat.

It has already been released through both iOS and Android through the most recent update and users will see that when they click on the “+” sign in chats and try to send a document, there is now an option to choose photos and videos alongside the original button to find files. This feature is available for both individual chats and even groups, but the supported file size is limited to 2GB.

Earlier this year, WhatsApp launched a new HD feature that allowed users to send photos and videos in higher definition. However, despite the bigger size, media sent through this feature is still compressed. With this new rollout however, you’re free to send your files in their original quality provided they are under the file size limit.

It should be noted that when media is sent as a document through this new method, there won’t be a preview for the recipient as it usually appears when you send a photo or video. This means they’ll have to tap on it to download and open the file before they can see what you sent.
