Sony officially unveiled the 5th generation of its Xperia 5, aptly named the Xperia 5 V. As promised nearly a week ago and after several leaks, the phone made its debut in conjunction with IFA 2023.
As with all generational flagships, the Xperia 5 V comes with updates, upgrades, and improvements over its predecessor, the Xperia 5 IV. As far as internal specs go, the phone is rocking a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen2 SoC, 8GB RAM, and up to 256GB of intenal storage space, although if Sony Malaysia’s market trend is anything to go by, we’re likely to end up with highest capacity SKU.
The display of the Xperia 5 V is a 6.1-inch FHD+ panel and just as before, it has a 21:9 aspect ratio, 120Hz refresh rate, and supports HDR10 for those deeper blacks and eye-searing whites. On top of that, it’s also using Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
The party trick of the Xperia 5 V is the same and latest Exmor T for mobile sensor that first debuted with the Xperia 1 V, is nestled into the phone’s main camera module, which by the way, has been reduced from a triple to a dual-sensor array. To make up for it though, it comes with a 48MP f/1.9 main and wide sensor, plus a 12MP f/2.2 ultrawide. On top of that, the main camera provides three focal lengths: 16mm, 24mm, and 48mm.
The Xperia 5 V is also the first Xperia to ship out with Sony’s new “Video Creator” app. To the brand, it’s a logical move, given that it is fixing its sights on content creators, allowing them to chop up, paste, and push the final edit of their videos, on the go.
Battery-wise, the Xperia 5 V is equipped with a 5,000mAh battery that supports 30W fast wired charging, and it also supports wireless charging.
Sony says that the Xperia 5 V will be arriving on our shore during the 4th quarter of this year, but didn’t provide a an specific date. We also do not have local pricing but as always, it’s likely that we’ll only be getting it closer to its availability.
