Newly Launched Sony Alpha 7C II and 7CR Coming To Malaysia In Late November

Sony A7C II A7CR launch global

As previously promised, Sony has officially unveiled two new models to its Alpha camera line-up. These consist of the A7C II and A7CR models, both of which sport compact-sized form factors and full-frame sensors.

The first of which is the successor to the company’s A7C model that was launched three years ago. Like its predecessor, the Mark II is smaller than most of Sony’s high-end mirrorless camera offerings, and it is also considerably light – coming in at only 514g. Also onboard is a 2.36M dot OLED electronic viewfinder (EVF) with 0.7x magnification, a 3.0-type 1.03M dot vari-angle LCD touchscreen, and a single UHS-II SD card slot.

Internally, the new Sony A7C II is equipped with a 33MP back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS full-frame sensor and a Bionz XR image processing engine. The camera is touted to be capable of shooting up to 10 frames per second (fps) via its mechanical or electronic shutter, and record up to 4K video with 7K oversampling. It also comes with 759-point autofocus with 94% image area coverage, ISO range of 100 – 51200, AI-powered subject recognition, real-time tracking and auto framing, as well as up to seven stops compensation via its 5-axis in-body image stabilisation (IBIS).

For video-centric features, this particular model can also record 4K/60p footage in Super35 format, FHD at up to 120p, offers 10-bit 4:2:2 colour sampling, as well as supports HLG, S-Log3, S-Cinetone, and LUTs. Besides that, it also has dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2, USB-C power delivery, and an included NP-FZ100 removable battery.

Next up is the Sony A7CR, which is pretty much a A7R V but in a smaller body – more specifically, the same compact-sized body as the A7C II. To that extent, it also sports identical specifications and features as the latter model, with the exception of the onboard sensor and features specific to it. Like the A7R V, the new A7CR is equipped with the same 61MP back-illuminated Exmor R full-frame sensor and Bionz XR image processor.

On top of that, it also comes with the same dedicated AI Processing Unit as the A7C II, enabling enhanced subject detection for autofocus, improved tracking and auto framing. Furthermore, the camera offers 693-point autofocus with 79% area coverage, up to eight fps of continuous shooting via mechanical shutter and up to seven fps via electronic, as well as record videos up to 4K/60p with 6.2K oversampling in Super35 and FHD at 120p.

The Sony A7C II and A7CR are slated to ship out globally (including Malaysia) by late November this year, retailing at US$2,200 (~RM10,214) and US$3,000 (~RM13,929) respectively for body only. Local pricing, however, has yet to be determined by the company. In terms of colour options, both models are offered in either black or grey.
