Huawei Launches Mate 60 Pro; Retails At 6,999 Yuan

Huawei suddenly and unexpectedly dropped the curtain yesterday with the launch of the Mate 60 Pro. The direct successor to last year’s Mate 50 Pro, the phone just popped up on the brand’s VMall online store and interestingly, it appears to only be available in just one configuration.

By that, the page shows a Mate 60 Pro available with 12GB RAM and 512GB. Just to be clear, the page indicates that it is taking pre-orders for the phone at the moment, with shipment for the first batch of pre-orders expected to go out by 17 September this year. As for pricing, the phone retails for RMB6,999 (~RM4,459).

As for its hardware specification, the product’s official landing page indicates that the phone will feature a display with a three punch holes at the top of the display, in what appears to be an attempt to kind of mimic the Dynamic Island on Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro series, with two of the punch holes housing a 3D “deep-sensing” camera and a 13MP selfie camera. As for the screen size, it is listed as having a 6.82-inch LTPO display with a dynamic refresh rate between 1Hz and 120Hz.

Besides the memory and storage capacity, the Mate 60 Pro is expected to be powered by Huawei’s Kirin 9000S SoC, with a top clock of 2.62GHz. We say expected because this particular detail isn’t actually mentioned on the product page, but initial rumours have pegged it down as the chipset of choice. As for the operating system, it still runs on HMS and the HarmonyOS 4.0.

Moving on to the main camera, the Mate 60 Pro sports a Star Ring module, housing a triple-camera setup comprising a 50MP f/1.4-f/4.0 wide, a 48MP, f/3.5 telephoto periscope lens, and a 12MP f/2.2 ultrawide.

As for available colour schemes, the Mate 60 Pro will be available in four options: Green, Silver, Purple, and Black. At the time of writing, there is no word on local availability or pricing.
