The last two entries in the ASUS Zenfone series of phones have not made its way to our shores. Which is a shame, as they look to be pretty good options for those who like phones of a smaller form factor. Making things worse is the possibility of there not being another entry in the series, according to a recent report.
According to TechNews Taiwan, ASUS will be going through another round of restructuring, and on the chopping block is the Zenfone division. This means that there will not be another Zenfone model next year, nevermind it not making its way to the local market. Staffers within the team will be moved to the ROG Phone team, or other departments within the company.
Which is unfortunate as the ASUS Zenfone series was among the last few options for those who prefer smartphones of a smaller form factor. It is also one of the few phone makers out there that has not yet removed the 3.5mm audio jack from their flagship models. Though to be fair, the Taiwanese company only has two real lines of phones, both of which cater to the high-end market, even of for different niches.
ASUS has yet to publicly comment on this, so for those holding out hope that the Zenfone line will still be hanging on, the last nail hs not yet been hammered in. But with that being said, considering compact flagships are considered a niche rather than just a mainstream alternative, it’s probably best to not hold your breath for good news on this front.
