X, Formerly Twitter, Allows Paying Subscribers To Download Videos

Twitter Blue Verified Now Concern Malaysia

Elon Musk recently decided that Twitter should have a new name that is simply the letter X. Which makes for cheap giggles whenever the company references videos on its own platform. And that is something we are going to do now, as the platform is making it possible for Twitter Blue subscribers to download videos.

In an update to the Help Center article titled “How to share and watch videos on Twitter”, the company says that Verified Users can download videos, naturally with some restrictions. To be able to download a video off of the former bird app, the uploader has to first allow their video to be downloaded in the first place. The ability to download is also only available to users whose account indicate that they are 18 or above. And finally, you can only download videos from tweets that you can see in the first place, so no downloading them from an account that has blocked you, for instance.

To use the feature, users can hit the kebab menu, or the three dots, and hit the new option that reads “Download video”. For those who don’t want their new video uploads to be downloadable, you’ll have to hit Edit at the bottom right after uploading your video, then go to Settings, then toggle the the option that reads “Allow video to be downloaded”. Worth noting is that this cannot be changed later, short of deleting the tweet itself and reposting.

While the update says the feature starts becoming available on 25 July, it is launching on iOS first. Android and web versions of X, previously Twitter, will get access to this “shortly”, with no date or window for us to work with.
