WhatsApp Now Lets You Use iPhones As Secondary Devices

WhatsApp has started rolling out a new update that expands the support Companion Mode. Now, the feature lets you use iPhones as secondary devices whereas before this, it was limited only to Android phones.

The expansion was noted in the changelog of the latest WhatsApp for iOS 23.10.76 update, which is already available on the app store. Moreover, the update sees the app releasing a feature that autoplays GIFs instead of users having to tap on them manually.

For those who have already received the update, there should be a new “link your device” option on the phone registration page of the app. From there, you just need to tap on it and scan the QR code with your primary device through the app.

If you’re not familiar with it, WhatsApp launched Companion Mode just last month, which allows users to link up to four secondary devices to main account. This syncs your messages, media, and calls across all the linked devices but, of course, there are some restrictions such as not being able to view live locations, create and view broadcast lists, or add or delete  statuses.

The quota of four devices includes web, desktop app, Android tablet, or companion phones that now includes both Android and iOS. WhatsApp says that the ability to use iPhones as a secondary device is rolling out to all users over the coming weeks, so not everyone will be able to use it immediately.

Your primary device doesn’t even need to be online for you to use WhatsApp on your linked devices but if you don’t use the app on your primary phone for over 14 days, all your secondary devices will be automatically logged out. Additionally, you can log out of the account from the linked devices themselves or you can even log them out remotely from your primary phone in the linked devices setting.
