Low-cost carrier AirAsia has launched its latest free seat campaign, once again offering five million free seats to several domestic and international destinations. This is the first time this year that the airline is offering a similar promotion, with the last time being last September.

The company is putting up free seats to local destinations such as Penang, Langkawi, Kuching, Sibu, and Kota Kinabalu as well as international routes including Bali, Krabi, Jakarta, Macao, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Phu Quoc, Ho Chi Minh City, and Singapore. Booking for the flights are running from 10 to 19 February with travel period between 1 March 2023 to 10 December 2023.

The so-called “free” seats won’t exactly end up costing you nothing as while the fare is RM0, it does not include airport tax, MAVCOM fee, fuel surcharge, and other applicable fees. In reality, the domestic flights will start from RM23,  with all the fees included, and from RM63 for international free seats.

In addition, AirAsia is introducing a new Flight Delay Insurance by Tune Protect, which promises a payment of RM200 to affected flyers when a flight is delayed more than two hours from the original or new departure time. However, keep note that it states the the insurance is only applicable for delays notified within 24 hours from the initial scheduled departure time.

The payout will be credited automatically to the account of BigPay users within three working days, while non-BigPay users will have to manually submit their claims. The Flight Delay Insurance is free for all bookings made from 10 to 19 February 2023 for the travel period between 1 March 2023 and 10 December 2023. As from 20 February onwards, the insurance will cost RM10 one-way and RM14 for return flights, which will be available for purchase on the AirAsia website and super app.

In related news, the company had recently replaced its AVA chatbot with a new one called Ask Bo. AirAsia promises that the replacement offers features and better interactions through an improved an AI system.
