The immense popularity of WhatsApp has made it a platform of choice for many users out there to quickly share files with each other. However, the messaging service is not exactly a great platform if you want to send high-quality images though as the app would compress them although that may change soon.
The ultra-reliable WABetaInfo has recently discovered a new setting within the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.2.11 that may allow users to send photos without any compression. Located within the header of the app’s drawing tool, the option is currently being referred to simply as the Photo quality.
Despite its existence in the beta update, the option is not operational just yet even for beta users. At the moment, there are no official words from WhatsApp regarding how the feature would function or its rollout timeline. As you may know, there is already the Best quality option in the app’s settings for media upload. However, photos that are sent through WhatsApp will still be compressed even if you enabled that particular option.
For what it is worth though, the compression that is being applied to the photos under the Best quality option would retain the majority of the photo’s original quality. Of course, there are ways that you can use to send over uncompressed images over WhatApp but it would definitely be better and simpler for users if the app can come out with a proper way to do this.
Meanwhile, WABetaInfo has also reported that the popular messaging service and Meta’s subsidiary is currently working to allow users to transfer chats between Android devices without having to rely on Google Cloud. The website has also noted that some WhatsApp beta users on Android and iOS might now be able to test out the new ability to share voice notes via status updates.
