AstraZeneca and Sinovac COVID-19 Vaccine Receive Approval As Booster Dose

The Drug Control Authority (DCA) has agreed to provide conditional approval for AstraZeneca and Sinovac’s CoronaVac COVID-19 vaccines as booster dose. This was confirmed through a media statement by the Director-General of Health, Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The statement noted that the homologous administration of AstraZeneca and CoronaVac booster doses can be done on those aged 18 years and above. What this means is that if you were administered with the AstraZeneca vaccine, the booster dose would be AstraZeneca as well and the same concept applies to CoronaVac recipients too.

In terms of the time gap, DCA has settled on six months after the second dose for AstraZeneca recipients. On another hand, CoronaVac recipients can choose to take the booster dose between three to six months after they have received their second dose.

That being said, details regarding the rollout of the AstraZeneca and CoronaVac booster dose have not yet been announced by the COVID-19 Immunisation Task Force-Booster (CITF-B). Nevertheless, it is really just a matter of time for it to take place.
