The local telco market is a competitive one, even if the number of major players aren’t especially huge. As such, it can be difficult to pick a service provider if you haven’t already signed up with one. And usually, once you do, it takes a lot to get someone to move to another service.
But if you haven’t already picked a mobile internet service provider, you’re likely still looking for one that is not only the fastest, but also the most consistent. In that case, you may consider pitching in with Team Yellow, Digi. Because this telco actually has the accolades from third party network benchmarks to prove it.
Crowned most consistent
As mentioned, anyone looking to get a new mobile internet service provider will likely have consistency as a major concern. But on that front, there’s nothing to worry about. This is because Ookla, the company behind Speedtest.net, has rated Digi as the most consistent mobile operator throughout the entirety of 2020.
This is plenty impressive on its own, but it’s worth remembering that Malaysia entered its first and strictest Movement Control Order (MCO) last year as well. And it was a period of time when mobile data use was increasing. No surprise, as a fair share of people were working from home during that period of time.
It’s not all past accolades only either. OpenSignal also rated Digi as providing the best video experience in KL, Selangor, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Perak, Penang, Terengganu and Sarawak, between the months of June and August this year. Specifically for video calls, OpenSignal also puts Digi as being the telco that provides the best experience for the quarter before, that is between February and May of 2021. And it would be difficult, to say the least, to be rated the telco that gives the best video experience without consistency in internet connectivity.
Why is this important? Simply because a consistent internet connection means that you get what you want, when you want. Need information on a specific topic? Type it into the search bar, hit enter and you get your search results with minimal wait time.
For videos, this means watching one in its entirety without having to deal with the annoying buffering circle. This is especially the case if you’re looking for something specific within a specific video, as you can jump to the point in question, and get the video playing immediately without having to wait.
Consistently quick too
Of course, consistency has to come with speed, and you’ll be glad to know that Digi is not lacking in that department either. In fact, aside from being the most consistent in 2020, Ookla has also rated Digi as the fastest mobile operator throughout the second half of 2020.
For more recent figures, we go back to OpenSignal, which reports that between the months of June and August of this year, Digi is rated as the telco that provides the best download speed experience. And while OpenSignal does not have a report for the months of March, April and May, the mobile analytics company says that Digi provided the best download speeds between December 2020 and February 2021 as well.
The reason for why speed is important should be self explanatory. After all, consistency loses its significance if it means that you’re only getting a constant trickle of data. Going back to videos as the easy example, even with a reliable, consistent connection, it doesn’t mean much if it’s not fast enough to get rid of the buffering circle.
Many jobs these days are no longer strictly of the text variety. Often, they involve multimedia, ranging from videos, audio clips or just straight up images in bulk. And if you’re working away from your office network and the home broadband setup, you’ll need a speedy mobile internet connection to get you all the files you need in the least amount of time.
And you can’t really do something else while waiting if it also involves getting things off the internet like streaming off of Spotify or Netflix, as it just competes with your work file downloads. That is, unless your internet connection speed is fast enough, allowing you to do both without negatively impacting either.
