Razer Launches New Blade 16 With 240Hz QHD+ Display

In line with CES 2024, Razer officially unveiled a handful of products for the year ahead, with the Blade 16 being one of the latest and updated products in its lineup. The laptop SKU debuted last year and was the first in the lineup to ship out with a dual resolution and refresh rate display.

This year, Razer is seemingly ditching that concept for the updated Blade 16, opting instead to go with a more sensible 16-inch QHD+ display but more importantly, it’s an OLED panel with a 240Hz maximum refresh rate. Adding on to the component’s details, it’s Calman certified which means it is, as Razer puts it, one of the most colour-accurate panels in the industry, with a DCI-P3 gamut of 100%. And because it is an OLED panel made by Samsung, it also comes with a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, making it a DisplayHDR True Black monitor. Oh, and it also has a GTG response time of 0.2ms.

Moving on to its other specifications, the Blade 16 comes with a multiple GPU options, with the top of the line SKU sporting an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 discrete GPU. That option, by the way, is a full-fat variant of its kind, with a maximum TGP of 175W. But again, your TGP mileage may vary depending on the choice of GPU you choose.

Regardless of GPU choice, all SKUs of the Blade 16 will ship out with just one CPU model, and that’s the Intel Core i9-14900HX. Yes, it’s not one of the chipmaker’s latest 14th Gen Meteor Lake mobile CPUs but having said that, the choice of processor is no pushover either. Basically a refurbished desktop 14900K, this mobile processor features eight P-Cores and 16 E-Cores, making it a grand 24-cores with 32-threads. Performance-wise, it’s got a maximum clockspeed of 5.8GHz, just shy of the 6GHz that the 14900K is capable of reaching.

To accommodate for all that new-found power, Razer also had to change up the cooling solution of the Blade 16. Technically speaking, the updated model now utilizes a new Unibody vapour chamber deisgn, improved fans with 0.5mm fins to better exhaust the hot air out the back of the laptop, plus a Nasbis insulating sheet, to ensure that the keyboard temperatures are 12% cooler compared to its predecessor.

Lastly, to power the entirety of the machine, the Blade 16 is equipped with a 95.2Whr battery that Razer says is able to provide up to six hours of play, although we’re a little skeptical about that claim but, until we get a unit to review, we’re going to reserve our thoughts on the matter. Oh, and Razer has also shrunk the size of the laptop’s power brick, making it up to 60% smaller and taking full advantage of the Gallium Nitrate (GaN) technology.

The Razeer Blade 16 will be available globally starting 18 January but preorders for the laptop will be open starting today. It will retail at a starting price of US$2,999 (~RM13,945). At the time of writing, there is no word on local pricing or availability.
