GoPro has officially launched its new Hero10 Black action camera, which is touted to offer faster performance, better connectivity, improved features and a higher maximum resolution than its predecessor. As you may recall, its design and some details have already been leaked online a few weeks ago, which also turned out to be accurate.

In terms of design, the GoPro Hero10 Black mostly resembles last year’s model – with the only differentiating visual element being its cyan coloured branding. However, there are some notable improvements, such as its slightly lighter weight at 153g and newly introduced lens covers that are claimed to be more scratch resistant and water-repelling, while at the same time producing less ghosting when compared to the previous generation. Much like its predecessor, it is also weather resistant and is capable of withstanding depths of 10 meters.

The action camera is the first from the series to feature a brand new onboard processor since the Hero6 back in 2017. Powering the GoPro Hero10 Black is the latest GP2 processor, enabling it to perform two times faster than its predecessor in terms of video and image processing. This also entails an even smoother and responsive user interface, as well as improved wireless connectivity for data transfers and live streaming.

The Hero10 Black uses the same 23.6MP sensor as last year’s model, but now with a bump in resolution support of up to 5.3K for video recording and 15.8MP for screen grabs – thanks to its all-new processor. In terms of frame rates, it can shoot 5.4K video at 60fps, 4K at 120fps, and 2.7K at 240fps. For live streaming, GoPro says that the new action camera is now capable of broadcasting videos wirelessly at 1080p. Another improvement is the added high frame rate support to both of its front and rear LCD screens for live previews.

As for features, you can expect improved low light enhancements, and better image stabilisation via the new built-in HyperSmooth 4.0 software. The latter now comes with an extended tilt limit of 45-degrees for horizontal levelling. There’s also a variety of video recording modes such as last year’s Hindsight, TimeWarp 3.0, Night Lapse, Schedule Capture, Super 8x Slo-Mo at 2.7K resolution, and much more.

Powering the Hero10 Black is a removable 1,720mAh battery, which is actually the same capacity as the Hero9. Other than that, the new action camera also features voice command capability, a rear touch screen, and support for Mod attachments that was introduced alongside last year’s model.

The GoPro Hero10 Black is slated to arrive in Malaysia by late September 2021. In terms of pricing, it is revealed that the next generation action camera will retail at RM2,399.
